All That Snow, All That Snow Has to Go
As the snow is retreating what’s left behind could be a wave of destruction depending on how your roof weathered the onslaught of winter storms. And depending on where you’re at in the Treasure Valley you might have only caught a glimpse on the warmer days before the storms brought more of that fluffy whiteness. And how deceiving those snowflakes can be, while those itty bitty flakes don’t look like they could do much damage taken together in cubic feet their weight can be destructive, as some of you may already be experiencing with multiple roof leaks, damaged units, and broken gutters.
Snow build-up on roofs can be extremely destructive. As layers of old snow and fresh snow accumulate ice forms between each layerand asthey grow those snow packs gain weight. Heavy snow packs damage gutters, flashings, even HVAC units, all of which can create leaks. In Boise and the surrounding area we’ve had a warmer spell and most sloped roofs have lost the majority of their snow packs. However, outside of this warm trend other towns are experiencing more snow accumulation on already strained roofing systems. Even if you haven’t had any leaks it would behoove you to have your roof assessed for possible damage from heavy snow accumulation. Technicians are seeing damage to gutters and downspouts, flashings, and HVAC units as the weight of snow packs have pressed and buckled the metal into deformities, which no longer provide the protection they were intended to provide.
